Barclays Bank has awarded scholarships to 20 students of the University For Development Studies. This initiative is meant for brilliant but needy students especially those in the engineering and science disciplines. The 20 awardees each received a brand new laptop and an amount of GHc 2,300 to support their educational needs. A total amount of GHc 167,425.00 has been received by the university on behalf of the beneficiaries. This award ceremony took place at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Chamber.
Prof. Gabriel Teye, the Vice Chancellor of UDS thanked Barclays bank for their support to the students and the university. Prof. Israel Dzomeku, the dean of students of the university also thanked the bank for their support but encouraged them to expand the scheme to cover more students and other disciplines.
Mr. Robert Pusabaduap ( the Cluster Manger in charge of Northern Ghana) said the scholarship scheme is a component of Barclays Bank’s ‘Three-part Model’ aimed at supporting Education and Skills Development, Financial freedom and Business development. He stated that Barclays Bank is committed through its Corporate Social Responsibility mandate to contribute to the development of tertiary Education in Ghana. Mr. Pusabaduap said it was on this basis that the Bank will continue to strengthen its mutually beneficial relationship with UDS.
