The University For Development studies- Tamale Campus yesterday the 12th of May, 2018 held the handing ceremony for its SRC/NUGS Executives. This august occasion was held at the ICT Auditorium. Pof Isreal Dzomeku, Dean of students of UDS, chaired the function. The event was also graced by three past SRC presidents of the institution
The outgoing SRC President Mr. Norbert Mantu Kipo, first contested the NUGS presidency in which he lost. He came back the following year, contested for SRC presidency and lost miserably. Mr. Kipo in his second attempt at the SRC presidency campaigned under the mantra “ Hope For Tomorrow” and with the slogan “works but not words”. In his second attempt, he was massively endorsed by the student body and was declared president of the 2017/18 academic. The Outgoing NUGS president, Madam Dede Michelle, the first female NUGS president who was overwhelmingly endorsed by students in her first attempt at the presidency also read her hand over speech. She enumerated the successes her administration has chalked and thanked the SRC for enabling smooth cooperation between the two offices owing to the fact that there has been documented evidence of bad blood between previous SRC and NUGS executives. She also thanked the student body for giving her the opportunity to serve.
Citations were presented to members of the executive committee and other deserving members of the Norbert Kipo led Administration.
The new executives were then duly sworn in by the judicial board chair of the SRC, his Lordship Iddrisu Mohammed Habib and necessary files were duly exchanged.
Mr. Haruna Sachibu Abdul Rahman, the newly sworn in took his turn to deliver his speech. He thanked the Almighty Allah, his family, friends and especially the student body for the reposed in him by way of endorsing him as the SRC president for the 2018/19 academic year. The past SRC presidents took turns to share a word of advice with the newly elected presidents.
Prof Israel Dzomeku in his closing remarks reiterated the commitment of the school management in assisting the SRC/NUGS. He commended the Norbert Kipo led administration for a good work done describing their achievements as “overwhelming”. He charged the newly sworn in executives to continue the good works of the erstwhile administration and also advised the students to change their attitudes towards programs entreating the SRC to device more strategic ways to attract students to programs. He also added that though his tenure of office expires this year, he will still be available to assist SRC/NUGS whenever they call on him.
The newly sworn in SRC President later on in the day organized a vetting session for the heads of the various committees of the SRC. The nominated students were duly vetted by a committee in which they all made it through.
In that same meeting the Judicial Board Chair duly swore in the leadership of the General Assembly and the members of the general assembly. After the General Assembly sitting commenced, the house was tasked to accept or reject the appointments of the committee heads. The house unanimously accepted their appointments and they were duly sworn into the General Assembly. Elected representatives of the various year groups were also sworn in. The Public Relations officer and deputy General secretary were also presented to the house for approval. They were approved and duly sworn in to their respective offices
